Busyness Hushed: Why They Call it the Human Race

Busyness is everywhere. Learn to hush the busyness in life like Jesus.

Busyness is everywhere. We’re all busy.

From dance to football practice.

From grocery shopping to folding and putting away laundry.

From trying to get everyone to bed at a decent hour to trying to manage all of the bad attitudes in the house.

We. are. busy.  Busy racing around and trying to check everything off of our impossible to-do lists.  I’m here to say.. Stop the race every now and then!

With all of the busyness, we forget to take time to actually connect with one another. We don’t make an effort to enjoy our time with our family because we’re in survival-checklist mode.  Slow down so the Lord can bestow His blessings. Pray for God to allow you to slow down. If you need help getting started praying, check out my free guide to the structure of a prayer.

Here’s some advice.

The lists can wait. Your house isn’t going to be perfect. The laundry can hang out in the dryer for a few days. The kids can go to bed a little later every now and then. I say all of this because we need to do a better job of focusing on quality time as a family, rather than trying to complete our checklists.  I’m SO guilty of this. I bury myself in chores and unrealistic checklists and expectations that I miss out on so much. This is why I have to make an extra effort to organize family time.

How we set family time in the busyness

What we do is not anything super expensive or fancy but enjoyable for all ages.  We do our connection at the dinner table.  As hard as it is to all eat dinner TOGETHER at the table, do it.  Make an effort to do this as often as possible.  Set phones aside (bad attitudes may come of this); over time this will become the custom and expectation.  The norm will be, set phones aside, participate and bond as a family.  The kids, even when they have bad attitudes, will grow to expect and enjoy it.  Even when you think your kids want nothing to do with you, they actually crave attention and structure.  Make it a point to learn about their day, their life, their future.  Make it a point to engage in meaningful conversations with them because they just want to be loved on and heard.  And when we make an effort to do this, have family connection, the Lord is pleased.  He longs for us to live in unity as a family.

In Psalm 133, David writes, “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!  It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe.  It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion.  For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.”

At the table, as a family, the Lord bestows His blessing.

So, slow down.

Let the Lord take the race.  Start your family dinner unity!  You’ll never regret investing in family time.
