Does prayer change things? Yes. Yes, it does.
I have prayed many prayers over the years and aimlessly prayed wishing for God to grant my desires. Boy, was I misguided! I thought that if I believed in God and asked Him for my desires that He would provide. I was disappointed time and time again with empty wishes.
It wasn’t until I was completely broken and doing things on my own that God really reached me. I started to get it. I started to rely on Him instead of just demanding things that I wanted. My world, my way. Not His way.
As I struggled through loneliness of my college years, entered the battle of a blended family, experienced the controversy of co-parenting, brawled with bitterness, had unpleasant experiences with unmet expectations in marriage, pined for pregnancies, experienced the pains of parenting, God grew me through them all. It was in those struggles that I truly learned to pray. Prayer changed me.
While my circumstances didn’t change immediately nor did every circumstance end the way I would’ve hoped for, my fervent pledge to prayer changed my perspective over time. I began to see things the way that God sees things. I began to see me the way that God sees me. I began to see others the way that God sees others. I began to see inconveniences as divine appointments. This is why prayer is so important. Prayer may not always change the circumstance but it can change your mentality.
