Seriously, pray for God to create a divine appointment with someone that can help guide you in life down God’s path. That sounds crazy but you’d be surprised how many times I’ve prayed a similar prayer. If you need help getting started praying, check out my free guide to the structure of a prayer.
Spiritual Mentor Transformation
Prayer has really changed me. For real, I’ve watched God come through time after time with answered prayers. Now, His answers may not have always been my favorite, but as I’ve learned to stay obedient through the trials, I’ve learned that He really does take the bad and turn it to good if we let Him.
Just recently, I was struggling with bitterness as a full time working mom and teacher and was just down right tired. I could feel myself slipping into the bitter cycle, so I went to prayer. I prayed for God to send me a spiritual mentor. Instead I got an entire spiritual support system. I also prayed for my husband to have Godly men to do life with. Through those prayers, God gave me a wonderful small group of older women pouring into younger married women and my husband an awesome circle of Godly men.
Looking back on that group, I know that’s when everything changed. My prayers changed. My outlook changed. My bitterness changed. I’m a more Godly woman because of it. I went to spiritual battle with some of the most biblically wise women I know. They mentored me and showed me how to help others in this battle.
My Prayer Shift
I have since shifted my prayers. I pray about everything. Seriously. Everything.
I have prayed for mentors and for divine appointments in each season of life since then. When I need a mentor at work, I pray for one. When I need a mentor as a wife and mom, I pray for one. When I need a spiritual mentor, I pray for one. A mentor is just a person who is at least one step ahead of me in that area. And no matter what, every time I ask for one, I get one. Even if they aren’t far ahead of me in this journey, they can always help me grow and learn. Even if it’s just one step.
