Spiritual Warfare Defeated

Spiritual warfare is a battle against the unseen that we have to combat with God.

Wanna know how to defeat spiritual warfare?  Prayer.  God teaches us through His Word how to combat the darkness of spiritual warfare.

If you struggle with knowing how to pray, download my free guide to learn the structure of prayer.  This will help you get started praying and overcoming the spiritual warfare that we are constantly facing.

10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we[d] are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.[e] 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.[f] 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.

Ephesians 6:10-18 NLT

Warfare Realization

I used to think bad things just happened and we needed to act right and maybe all of the bad things wouldn’t happen.  While there is partial truth to that (when you stay away from harmful things, you are safer in general), there is also some misguidance.  God clearly instructs us that there is always a spiritual battle happening between us and the unseen world.  When we choose to follow Jesus and we take on his name, we become a target for the enemy.  In order to be prepared for battle, God warns us to put on his armor and fight with him in us.

I’ve learned over the years of my spiritual growth that when I am growing in my walk with Jesus, the enemy attacks to derail my relationship with Jesus and all that I am accomplishing for His Kingdom.

Looking Back

My husband took on a leadership role with our student ministry at church in September. Shortly after my son started having uncontrollable facial twitching and complaining of his brain hurting in November.  We took steps closer to God’s Will for our lives and immediately had an attack from the enemy.  To combat this, we had to surround ourselves with praying people and had to trust for God to provide.  As we were still trusting, we had another attack in December, my car broke down.  It was going to cost thousands of dollars to fix it on top of the large amount of money we paid for my son to have extensive testing done.

We continued to pray and surrounded ourselves with Godly people who rallied around us to pray. We looked for God within our situation.  As we continued to press on in faith, God continued to show up for us.  We got a good doctor report for my son and his twitching and pain stopped. Our church showed up and paid to have our car fix completely at no charge to us (IT WAS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS). Then we walked into church on Christmas Eve to receive a Christmas card from our church for $1,200.

You can’t tell me God was not with us through all of the trials! You also can’t tell me that the enemy was attacking us as we stepped into a new spiritual role. We were able to stand firm in the battle all because we started to put on the Armor of God.

How to Fight Spiritually

His armor looks different from what we think of when we think of battle armor.  He wants us to put on the peace from his Good News of Jesus’ salvation.  You have to have Jesus in your heart to fully know the peace of God during the trials.  When everything around you is in chaos but you have Jesus in you, you can tap into his peace which transcends all understanding.  He wants us to hold up the shield of faith to combat the devil.  And he wants us to have his salvation as our helmets and use his word as our sword.

This looks like reciting scripture during the tough times, or opening up his word and asking for wisdom during a tough season.  This also looks like reaching out to elders in church to guide your and give you wisdom from a season that they’ve already weathered.

When you realize that we are struggling with evil from an unseen world, your battle plan changes.  Let God be your battle plan.

  5. Recite scripture out loud
